The school principal, Helen Laxton L.R.A.D. A.R.A.D. R.T.S. A.I.S.T.D.(Mod) A.I.S.T.D.(Nat) A.I.D.T.A RTS is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dance, London and is a fully qualified, registered teacher with over 35 years of experience in performing and teaching Dance. Helen is also a mentor for students studying for The Royal Academy of Dance Certificate in Ballet Teaching studies which allows her pupils to qualify as teachers of Dance and to gain an internationally recognized teaching qualification

Helen Laxton School of Dance

 

The Helen Laxton School of Dance was founded in Yeovil, Somerset in 1986. The school began with just three pupils and it just kept growing and growing!!

Thousands of children have learnt to dance at the school and many pupils have gained places at the top Vocational Dance Schools, Colleges and Universities to further thier dance training.

These schools include The Royal Ballet School, The Royal Academy of Dance, PPA Academy, GSA, Urdang, London Studio Centre, Laban Centre, Britt School, Central School of Ballet, Elmhurst Ballet School, Laine Theatre Arts, The Arts Educational School, Sylvia Young, Bird College, Millennium, Performers College, Stella Mann and Phil Winston.

Many former pupils have or are performing in The West End, in Ballet & Dance Companies & with top recording artists all around the world.

Somerset School of Performing Arts

 

The Somerset School of Performing Arts was founded in Yeovil in 1999. The school runs sessions on Saturday afternoons during the school term

1:00 -2:00pm for our junior pupils aged 4 - 7years

2:10 -5:10pm for our senior pupils aged 8 - 18 years.

The aim of the school is to give children the chance to learn with industry professionals who share thier experience, knowledge and passion for Performing Arts.

The most important aspect of our training programme is that our pupils have fun and that they gain confidence whilst learning skills which will enhance their lives.Many pupils have have gained places at the top Vocational Performing Arts Schools, Colleges and Universities to further thier  training.

These schools include, Guldford School of Acting, PPA Academy, Urdang, London Studio Centre, Britt School,   Laine Theatre Arts, The Arts Educational School, Sylvia Young,  Bird College, Millennium, Performers College, Stella Mann

 

 

Helen Laxton Dance Company

 The Helen Laxton School of Dance teaches Royal Academy of Dance Graded Ballet from Pre Primary to Grade 8, Vocational levels Intermediate Foundation to Advanced 2 , Imperial Society of Teachers Dance Modern Stage, Jazz, Commercial, Hip Hop, Street Dance,  Pre school Ballet, Boogie Bouncer Toddler Dance, Tap dance  Lyrical, Contemporary, Progressions Ballet Classes, Acrobatic Arts and Adult Ballet. The school also runs 4 Elite Beat Performance Squads, 4 award winning World Quaslifying Hip Hop Crews, The RDC Hip Hop training Academy and The Somerset and Dorset Youth Dance Company.  

The school accepts girls and boys from 15 months old to adult from beginners to professionals.

 

 

The Somerset School of Performing Arts

The school trains pupils  to Act, Sing, Dance and Perform through carefully structured classes. We also offer workshops in additional subjects such as recording,  microphone technique, stage makeup, directing, costune & set design which enables our pupils to learn the various techniques and disciplines required for a career in the Performing Arts industry.We hope that through regular carefully structured workshops, activities, games and performances  our pupils will gain confidence and learn new skills which they will be able to use throughout their lives. We accept pupils aged 4 -7 years into our Mini Division and aged 8 - 18 years into our Senior School

Cinderella

Many congratulations to one of our former pupils Kate Jordan, who will be appearing on stage in the West End in Andrew Lloyd Webbers musical version of Cinderella which is due to open shortly.
