Congratulations to all pupils who recently took Grades 2,5,6 and 7 RAD examinations. A total of 19 Distinctions with many in the high 80's and 90's and 25 high merits.

Looking into 2016

 

Our pupils will be performing in "Spring Forward" atThe Octagon Theatre Yeovil in February 2016. "Circus, Carnival and Cabaret" beckons in June at the Digby Hall in Sherborne. The Someset School of Perorming Arts stars in "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in March again at the Digby Hall whilst June sees pupils in "Shine" followed by "Dance Dance Dance" in July both at the Octagon.

Everybody Dance 2015

 

The Helen Laxton School of Dance and The Somerset School of Performing Arts –  Performances at The Octagon Theatre Yeovil on Thursday 5th March at 7.00p.m.  Friday 6th March at 7.00p.m. Saturday 7th March at 2.30p.m. and 7.00p.m. and Sunday 8th March at 2.30p.m. and 7.00p.m.

Come and watch hundreds of talented local dancers, singers and performers from 2.5 year old beginners to 20 year old professional dancers. Proceeds from the shows will be donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust

 

Strictly Come Dancing

 

Strictly Come Dancing star Pasha Kovalev is returning to Yeovil’s Octagon Theatre as part of the tour of his latest show, Life Through Dance.

The popular professional dancer with the BBC TV show will be performing at the Octagon on 17th May.

Pasha will be joined by fellow professional dancer Anya Garnis and pupils from The Helen Laxton School of Dance

We will be holding auditions for children aged 8 and over on Sunday 25th January. Please contact me for further details

 

Somerset Youth Dance Company

Over 80 children from The Helen Laxton School of Dance have been accepted into The Somerset Youth Dance Company for the 2013/14 season. The company will be performing in a full length production in March and July 2014 as well as performing in events for charity and various functions throughout the year.

 

 Everybody Dance 2013

Everybody Dance  at the Octagon Theatre  was once again a huge success . Pupils from The Helen Laxton School of Dance and our other school, The Somerset School of Performing Arts came together for this dance, and singing spectacular. They performed for 6 shows to packed and very appreciative audiences who gave them great support.

Children from 2 years all the way up to adults took to the stage, they performed a variety of  dance styles including Ballet, Hip Hop, Street Dance, Lyrical, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Musical Theatre.

All of the performers  had a great time and gained valuable stage experience.

£1500 was raised for local charities, Yeovil Freewheelers and the Yeovil Opportunity Group, both charities do amazing work for the local communities.

 

 

 

 

 

           

 Strictly Come Dancing 2013

 

           50 Pupils from the school and Somerset School of Performing Arts, aged between 9 and 18 years of age were selected to appear with Pasha Kovalev and Katya Virshilas and the cast of "Strictly Come Dancing" which undertook a national tour of the UK. The students were all very excited to be performing with the stars and they had a great time being a part of such a popular tour.


 

Shine at The Octagon Theatre June 2013  

           Our Elite Beats Performance Mini, Junior and Senior Squads, our Rhiact Hip Hop Crew and our Advanced Ballet pupils all took part in this entertaining show at the Octagon Theatre which was showcasting lots of talented performers from the surronding areas.

 

 

 

      

 

Everybody Dance 2011

"Everybody Dance 2011" was a  6 show dance, music and singing spectacular which took place at The Octagon Theatre in Yeovil.

                                     

The show featured hundreds of local children aged from 2 ½ years to adults performing a variety of dance styles including Ballet, Hip Hop, Street Dance, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Jazz, Tap and Cheerleading. Proceeds from all of our shows are donated to local charities. " Everybody Dance 2011"  raised £1,300 which was donated to Yeovil District Hospital's Flying Colours Appeal to improve facilities in the women's hospital.

                                                             

 

Pupils from the dance school are always in demand to perform locally with both amateur and professional companies. and we are very proud to be the school chosen to select children to appear in the professional pantomime at The Octagon Theatre each year.  In June 2011, 50 of our students had the amazing experience of performing in the  “Strictly Come Dancing Tour“  with Brian Foruna and Kristina Rihanoff.
